Things to remember when moving in

Moving into a new apartment is exciting, even though there are plenty of things to organize and remember. Here is our checklist for moving in.

Change of address notification

Submit a change of address notification to both Posti and the Digital and Population Data Services Agency to ensure your mail is delivered to the correct address. You can conveniently submit it to both parties via Posti’s online service.

Electricity agreement

Make an electricity agreement if electricity is not included in the rent. Shared apartments always include electricity in the rent. You can check this on your tenancy agreement.

Home insurance

At Hoas, home insurance is mandatory for all tenancy agreements that started after January 1, 2026. In addition, it is the best protection for your finances and property. Take out home insurance starting from your move-in day, or remember to transfer it to your new address. Read more: Home insurance

Free internet

Prepare to use the free internet by getting an Ethernet cable (RJ-45) and a router. Hoasnet is not a wireless network – you will need your own router to set it up in your apartment. Read more: Internet

MyHoas

It’s a good idea to log in to MyHoas as soon as you have signed the tenancy agreement. In MyHoas, you can send a message to our customer service, submit a fault report, pay your rent, and take care of many other housing-related matters.

Moving day

Your moving day is usually the start date of your tenancy agreement. However, if your agreement starts on a weekend or public holiday (e.g., New Year’s Day, Epiphany, First of May, Ascension Day, or Christmas), your moving day will be the next weekday.

Keys

Keys are picked up from Caverion’s key machine. Read more: Picking up keys

Report an untidy apartment

Report a filthy apartment immediately, no later than within 3 days of picking up the keys: submit a fault report in MyHoas and call customer service.

If the apartment contains belongings from the previous tenant, please let us know. If you wish to keep the items, the responsibility for them transfers to you. If you do not want to keep them, we will come to remove them from the apartment.

Complete the move-in report

Complete the move-in report in MyHoas within 10 days of the start of your tenancy agreement. Use the inspection to report any defects, even those that do not affect living comfort. Read more: Move-in report

Apartment inspection

The apartment may be inspected during the first days of the month if issues with the condition of the apartment were observed during the previous tenancy. The inspector will visit your apartment and order necessary work. If you have restrictions regarding the use of the master key, inform our customer service immediately. Smoke detector

Your apartment has a smoke detector maintained by Hoas, and you are responsible for regularly testing its functionality. Test to make sure it works. Read more: Fire safety
