Frontpage Tenants Your own home Washing machines

Washing machines

Usually, Hoas’ apartments do not come with washing machines. However, some of the newer apartments come with dishwasher installed. If your apartment has a dishwasher, check from the tenancy agreement if the dishwasher is from Hoas or previous tenant.

Checklist for your own washing machine

  • You must have valid home insurance
  • Never leave the washing machine running unattended or when you leave the apartment
  • Always turn off the water tap after use
  • Follow Hoas installation instructions
  • Plug the inlet and outlet water pipes when you move out

Appliance left by previous tenant

The dishwasher or washing machine in the apartment may have been left by the previous tenant. An appliance left by the previous tenant is the responsibility of the new tenant. If you do not want to take responsibility for the appliance, submit a fault report in MyHoas. Hoas will arrange for the removal of the appliance. If you want to keep the appliance, make sure the connections are in proper condition and that your home insurance is valid. Hoas is not responsible for servicing the appliance if it breaks down.

If you plan to leave your own dishwasher or washing machine for the next tenant, agree on it with them and make sure they notify us in writing. Otherwise, the appliance must be removed and the connections must be plugged before moving out.

Installing your own washing machine

If the appropriate connections are present in the apartment, you may choose to install a laundry or dish washer. Hoas will not add the connections if the apartment does not have them.

Get a professional to do the installation of the machine and keep a receipt of the done work. If the machine causes for example a water damage later, the receipt is a proof that it was not caused by installing the washing machine the wrong way by yourself.

Installing a dishwasher

  • Get a home insurance or make sure it is valid
  • Make sure your apartment has the necessary connections for installing a dishwasher
  • Remove the fixed cabinet from the dishwasher space and store the parts (door, shelving)
  • Ensure that the apartment floor extends underneath the dishwasher space if required by the installer. If the floor is missing under the dishwasher space, submit a fault report.  Hoas will install the missing flooring so that the dishwasher can be installed.
  • Order installation from a professional and keep the receipts
  • Place a drip tray under the dishwasher
  • Keep the inlet and outlet pipe plugs
  • Never leave the dishwasher running when you leave the apartment
  • Always turn off the dishwasher’s water tap after use

Plug the pipes before you move out

We left you plugs for the inlet and outlet pipes. Here are the instructions on what you should do with them.

  • Install the plugs properly when you remove the washing machine and/or dishwasher. If you don’t know how to install the plugs yourself, get a licensed plumber to do it for you.
  • If the plugs are not suitable, you should buy correct ones from hardware store or remove the tightener. Under no circumstances should the pipes be left unplugged.
  • You are responsible for making sure that the plugging is done properly and that there will be no leaks/water damage. So make sure that the pipes do not leak after plugging.

Plugging the dishwasher pipes

The pipes for the dishwasher are in the sink cupboard. The brass/chromed plug goes to the inlet water pipe. The rubber plug goes to the outlet water pipe.

Outlet water pipe: Place the rubber plug on the end of the tube (blue circle in the picture). You don’t need any tools for this.

Inlet water pipe:

  1. Place a brass/chrome plug on the end of the inlet pipe (red circle in the picture). Check that there is a rubber sealing ring on the bottom of the plug and press it into place if necessary.
  2. Note! Use only the rubber seal that came with the plug. Do not use any sealing tape – using a sealing tape might prevent the plug from tightening properly.
  3. Install the plug to the inlet water pipe using two wrenches: support the inlet water pipe with the other wrench to prevent the pipe from twisting and breaking, and tighten the plug with the other wrench.
  4. Finally, check that the plugs are not leaking! If you find a leak, you need to try again. If necessary, get a plumber. You are responsible for making sure that the plugs are correctly inserted and that the connections hold.

Plugging the washing machine pipes

The inlet and outlet pipes for the washing machine are located either under the sink or integrated in the wall.

  • Pipes integrated in the wall do not need to be plugged.
  • If the pipes are located under the sink, you will need to plug them. If the original plastic plug on the washing machine inlet is tight, it is sufficient to twist it in place and no brass plug is required.
  • Always check that the plug holds!

Hoas dishwasher

In our newest and basic renovation sites, a dishwasher may be included in the apartment’s equipment. If there is a fault in a dishwasher installed by Hoas, submit a fault report in MyHoas.
