Modern student homes in Tikkurila
The eight-storey building will include a total of 149 studios and 13 family apartments.
The finished apartments will be cozy and modern: light-coloured vinyl plank flooring, white walls and kitchen cabinets, wood-coloured countertops, and light grey bathroom tiles. Each apartment will have a private French balcony.
The building will include diverse common areas, which will consist of several different kinds of spaces that form a coherent entity. There will be two saunas available for the tenants to book free of charge. The sauna lounge room is connected to a small auditorium, which can be used for lounging, studying, or even watching movies while sitting on the bleachers. There is also a larger common space next to the auditorium, which will house the free-of-charge washers and driers in addition to a small kitchen with tables and chairs.
The building will also have good waste sorting and recycling facilities as well as bicycle storage with numbered stands.
The Vehkapolku student building will be a part of a new kind of city block concept, which will include several new residential buildings and the new Tikkurila church. The city block called the Block of Encounters will aim to develop a sense of communality among the residents in the form of different kinds of events, common communication channels and associations.
Thanks to the train and bus stations located right next to Vehkapolku, the public transit connections are excellent. Northern Helsinki (e.g. Puistola, Malmi, Oulunkylä), western Vantaa and western Helsinki (e.g. Myyrmäki, Kannelmäki, Pohjois-Haaga) are all easily accessible by train. All long-distance trains stop in Tikkurila and the bus connections will take you easily to different areas of Vantaa. The train ride to the centre of Helsinki only takes 14 minutes, 6 minutes to Malmi, 25 minutes to Myyrmäki, and 8 minutes to Kerava.
The location in the centre of Tikkurila guarantees good access to various services. You will have your pick from small shops to supermarkets for your daily shopping, and there are plenty of cafes and restaurants, especially in the Dixi and Tikkuri shopping malls. Additionally, the Tikkurila Library, Culture Centre Vernissa, Finnish Science Centre Heureka, and a number of city bike stations are all nearby.
The area also provides ample sports and recreational options. The Tikkurila Sport Park offers diverse facilities for both indoor and outdoor sports and there are more exercise opportunities available in nearby Hiekkarju and Puistola. For some outdoor fun, head to the banks of Keravanjoki or hop on a bike to get to the Kuusijärvi park or even further on to Sipoonkorpi National Park.
The rejuvenation of Tikkurila that has been going on for a few years already is still moving further, and a strong urbane culture has started to develop alongside a village feel.
