Enjoy your vacation worry-free – DNA’s tips for a smooth trip abroad

Summer vacation is a highlight of the year for many people, a time to relax at home or embark on an adventure abroad. Domestic travel within the country is also a great choice for breaking away from everyday life. If you decide to go on a trip abroad, it’s worth remembering any potential limitations on phone and internet usage before your journey begins. With these tips from DNA, you can use your phone and internet worry-free during your travels, without the fear of a hefty phone bill.

1. Check the international usage included in your plan

Different plans have different international usage options, whether it’s a mobile plan or mobile broadband.

  • If you’re traveling in EU/EEA countries, check the size of the EU data package included in your plan’s monthly fee. Note that not all European countries are part of the EU or EEA.
  • If you’re traveling outside the EU/EEA area, check the roaming rates in the destination country in advance and see if there are additional services available for purchasing travel data that works in that country.

If the content of your plan doesn’t meet your needs, we’re happy to help you choose a suitable plan at DNA Sales Service toll-free number 0800 550 044 (Mon-Fri 8 am – 9 pm, Sat 9 am – 5 pm) or at DNA Store dna.fi/dnakaupat.

You can check the international usage included in DNA plans at https://www.dna.fi/euroaming.

2. Familiarize yourself with the data usage of different applications

Do you have an idea of how far your EU data package or travel data will go, or what kind of charges you can expect for usage that’s not included in your plan’s monthly fee? 1 GB is enough for, for example:

  • 1 hour of browsing Instagram
  • 10 hours of browsing the internet
  • Uploading or sending 200 vacation photos in good quality
  • Listening to 300 favorite songs on a music streaming service
  • 1 hour of watching videos in HD quality
  • Thousands of WhatsApp messages

3. Download maps and content to your phone or preferred app in advance

Remember this tip well in advance of your trip! Download maps of the area to your phone in advance so that you don’t need a data connection to use the maps while abroad. It’s also a good idea to download podcasts, audiobooks, music, movies, and TV shows to your devices in advance.

4. Enable a VPN connection

Public Wi-Fi networks should be approached with caution. Protect your privacy and Wi-Fi usage with a secure VPN connection.

5. Learn how to use remote management on your phone

In case of theft or loss, it’s worth finding out how you can locate and lock your smartphone using the service provided by the device manufacturer. Apple devices utilize the “Find My iPhone” app offered by iCloud. You can remotely manage your Android devices using Google’s “Find My Device” service. It is a good idea to familiarize yourself with remote management services in advance so that you know how to act quickly if needed.

6. Always have your operator’s customer service number with you

Keep your operator’s customer service number handy during your trip, not just in your phone’s contacts, in case your phone is stolen. In the event of theft, contact customer service immediately so that your plan can be temporarily suspended and prevent unauthorized use. DNA’s customer service phone number is: +358 44 044 144.

However, you don’t always have to go far to have a great time. Summer is the perfect time to relax at home as well. Your Hoas housing includes the Hoasnet 200M internet connection provided by DNA, which offers enough bandwidth for remote studying, Teams video calls, streaming services, and online gaming. Hoasnet 200M is available at your home without a separate subscription.
