Changes to payments – what you need to know from 9 October 2025

Paying invoices through online banking or a mobile bank will change as of 9 October 2025, when the EU’s instant payment regulation comes into effect. With this regulation, all payments within the euro area will be processed within a few seconds.

A key part of the new regulation is the verification of the payee, which aims to ensure that payments reach the correct recipient. This change is intended to improve payment security. The verification is carried out automatically.

As a result of your bank’s checks, you may receive a notification in your online bank if the payee’s name and account number do not match. You can then pause, check, and correct the payment details if necessary. These notifications are not a scam.

Please ensure you use the official name shown on your invoice when making a payment:

If the official name does not fit entirely in the payee name field, write as much of the beginning of the name as the field allows. Always start with the official name – do not use abbreviations or extra spaces.

If the payee’s name does not exactly match the official name, you may receive a notification from the bank, but you can still proceed with the payment.

Note: When you pay invoices through Hoas’s online services (MyHoas), Visma Payments Oy acts as both the payment intermediary and the recipient. The EU Instant Payments Regulation does not affect payments made via MyHoas.
